This fall, Maria Roosen will take over Kasteel het Nijenhuis in Heino / Wijhe. In doing so, she invites artists of various ages and backgrounds to join her in showcasing the castle’s spaces and surroundings in a new light. Throughout her career, Roosen has collaborated with other makers, such as glassblowers, to create her works of glass, textiles or wood. Something she herself describes as the 1+1=3 formula – together it always gets better. In selecting, Roosen deliberately looked at both young creators and contemporaries; mutual inspiration is the basis.
In the art world in recent years, there has been an increasing focus on polyphony and collectivity, as a counterpoint to our highly individualized and privatized Western society. Creators increasingly seem to be looking for how to reinforce each other, and the idea of the artist as an isolated genius is long gone. Roosen & Guests shows what collectivity can mean, how you can stand strong together, but also that art is always moving and reacting to its environment.
